“100% Doraemon & Friends Drone Show” successfully illuminates the skies of Tokyo Bay, featuring illuminations from previous Hong Kong shows, exclusive design from upcoming exhibition and Fujiko’s original art of “Castle of the Undersea Devil”

  The much anticipated “100% Doraemon & Friends Drone Show” has finally landed in Tokyo! Japan’s first drone show held today (March 7) not only showcased illustrations from the previously held Hong Kong show, but also revealed additional exclusive illustrations from the upcoming Tokyo exhibition as well as the newly released movie!

  An hour prior to the start of the show, Odaiba Marine Park was already seen to be packed with fans and audiences. Even after the performance has ended, large crowds could still be seen as attendees slowly dispersed.

  Whilst the weather today was quite unstable due to wind changes, the official organisers indicating that alternative arrangements might have to be made in relations to the performance. Fortunately, the show still went ahead as planned. About half an hour before the start of the show, announcements could be heard at the venue, introducing the drone show, the upcoming exhibition as well as the new movie “New Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil”.

  According to on site audiences, the announcements made at Odaiba Marine Park were generally clear to listen, only slight drowned out by the noise of the general crowd at times. At the same time, audiences were also able to listen to the background music of the performance through connecting to a temporary audio service through their mobile devices, with many noting that the connection quality was fairly good.

  The first half of the drone show recreated selected highlights from the previous two Hong Kong shows, whilst the second half part incorporated elements from exclusive content from the exhibition as well as the new movie. The performance was accompanied by background music as well as commentary dialouges being voiced by the five main Japanese voice actors.

  The storyline of the first half part revolves around the 4 Secret Gadgets, accompanied by “Yume wo Kanaete Doraemon” as the background music.

  The show opened with scene full of countdown clocks, simulating the atmosphere of the Time Tunnel. This was followed by Doraemon arriving from the 22nd century abroad the “Time Machine”.

  Doraemon shows his hand and takes out a new gadget, “100% Friends-Calling Bell” (100%友達あつめすず), then calls out for Nobita, Gian, Suneo and Shizuka, with the four appearing afterwards.

  After that, a 3D illumination of “The Hopter” appeared, shifting to the 5 characters flying in the sky. The four then disappeared afterwards, leaving behind Nobita flying slowly on his own. The sequence then ended with the ending from the episode “All The Way From The Future”, where Nobita’s shorts with “The Hopter” attached on it remained.

  Next, the “Magnify Ray” appeared, with a flat version of Doraemon slowly enlarging, transformation into a 3D form that was rotating in the sky, waving at everyone.

  After the above four scenes, the background music slowly decreased, following with a series of Japan exclusive illustrations being illuminated onto the sky.

  The instrumental version of “Boku Doraemon (TV 40th anniversary ver.)” began, with a blooming Sakura tree appearing in the sky, where Suneo asked everyone to prepare for the group photo, and Doraemon transforming himself into a shape of a cherry blossom, remarking the moment was too special to miss. A cute 3D Sakura Doraemon then appeared.

  When Nobita asks whether any other transformation forms of Doraemon would appear, Doraemon immediately changes again, with the sky illuminating four illustrations of the Japan exclusive limited designs (Sakura, Sumo, Onigiri and Shiba Inu), possibly hinting that Japan’s exhibition could feature a new storyline from the newly produced original animation.

  After the exclusive illustrations from the Japan’s exhibition, the logo of the supporting partner company AllRightsReserved appeared, marking the end of the exhibition themed segment of the show. The show then transitions into the theme of “Castle of the Undersea Devil”.

  As the theme song of the newest movie “Honto” started playing, an illustration of the five riding Buggy flashes across the sky, with the original illustration coming from the colorured cover artwork of author Fujiko F Fujio’s original long tale “Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil”. Next, the words “New Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil — Now Showing” appeared in the sky, bringing the main segment of today’s drone show to a close.

  After the main segment of the show, the logos of the sponsoring BOSCO, streaming platform TELASA, JR Tokai (Central Japan Railway Company) appeared in order.

  Finally, as the background music plays again for the last time, the exhibition official website’s QR Code appeared, with the voice actors farewelling with audiences while expressing their hope to meet everyone again in the exhibition.

  Many YouTube channels have now shared scenes and footages from the live event, with some channels even have the live recording of the show. Simply search keywords such as “Odaiba Marine Mark” (お台場海浜公園) and “100% Doraemon and Friends Drone Show” (100%ドラえもん&フレンズ ドローンショー) in Japanese, and you would be able to easily find replays and videos from the show.
