According to information provided by Box Office Box, “Doraemon The Movie: Nobita’s Sky Utopia” grossed a total of 8995 USD in UAE box offices on its opening weekend (July 27–30), ranking 17th overall. In comparison, “Oppenheimer” currently ranks first overall with 1,423,568 USD in box office.
Whilst the “Doraemon The Movie: Nobita’s Sky Utopia” does not look strong in comparison to “Oppenheimer”, the film was only available in 18 cinemas throughout UAE due to selected screening, resulting in its inability to compete with Hollywood blockbusters.
“Doraemon The Movie: Nobita’s Sky Utopia” was released in a total 10 Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE, with it all being released through selected screenings, meaning that box office results were kept private. But through the film’s performance in the UAE, we can still predict the film’s performance in the rest of the Middle East.
Although its box office performance has not been too strong compared to other films in theaters, it is certainly a positive thing that “Doraemon” movies are entering the Middle East market, with the potential in continuing to expand Doraemon’s popularity within the international community and market.
